"There is a picture on various websites that show the "Hass" in bad weather alongside the USS Preble in Feb. 1976. Many have the comment that says it was "trying to refuel the Preble". Well it did refuel the Preble, about 30,000 gallons as I remember, from Station #3 and I was the rig captain. Then I was a BM2 and LPO of the USS Hassayampa (AO-145) 1st Division. And a few months later I was given several pictures from the Captain for souvenirs. The "Hass" was my best tour of duty in 20 yrs in the Navy. The "Hass" never tried to do anything, it always did its job."

"I found this picture over the weekend.  It was taken from the flight deck of USS RANGER during the same unrep as the infamous “trying to refuel” picture that Joe Wolff debunked.  When we reached Subic, someone on RANGER sent a bunch of prints over and somehow I ended up with one.  It is much higher quality than the one on the web.   I scanned it at the highest available resolution available.  Please feel free to make whatever use of it that you like."
